11 Tips – How To Drive Traffic To Your Blog!

There are dozens of articles and methods on how to drive traffic to your blog, some are completely free, while others can break the bank in a hurry!

how to drive traffic to your blog

In this article I’d like to share 11 tips on how to drive traffic to your blog, without having to take a second mortgage out on your home.

Not all strategies discussed here are free, but they are designed for those building on a budget.

After you have designed your website, hopefully with all the proper SEO in place, the first step will be to drive traffic to it.

I want to discuss some less conventional ways first to increase traffic to your blog other than Article Marketing, Forum Marketing, Press Releases, PPC, etc. You can find that on any of the other 20 million “How To Get More Traffic'” sites out there.

Since this article is about getting people to visit your site, I am going to assume your are already following the “Golden Rule” of providing high quality content related to your niche.

If you’ve done your keyword research properly, which is half the battle to getting organic traffic from Google to your site, this is my my number one tip on how to drive traffic to your blog…

1. Twitter (Free & Paid Methods)

Twitter is like having a built in list of millions of people you can market too multiple times throughout the day, if you go about it the right way.

Because my goal here is to provide quality content that will help people succeed in their network marketing business. All I have to do is direct my twitter followers to my various articles and let them do the selling for me.

Unfortunately, spammers have taken advantage of Twitter by posting nothing but capture page links in their tweets, or they go about marketing directly to people without first building a relationship. Twitter is cracking down on them hard and accounts are being shut down left and right.

Remember, Twitter is still a Social Networking Site and should be used as just that! Be sure to engage with your Twitter followers and ALWAYS reply to any re-tweets, mentions, and #FF

My philosophy is to first create great content that people are searching for and then share it with the world via Twitter. Right now I would say 60% of the traffic to my blog comes from Twitter.  That’s about 3,600 views per month just from a 140 character tweet.

At the end of each article I have a call to action, those who have found value in the article and who are looking to learn how to generate leads online are going to click the link provided and check it out.

There are methods which allow you to automate Twitter, saving you valuable time to pursue these other strategies. I’m all about automation whenever possible.

It’s been long overdue but is finally here! I just finished my eBook on, “How To Create Massive Amounts of Traffic Using Twitter.” My Secret weapon for automating Twitter is revealed! There is a fire sale going on right now, click the link and check it out!  “Twitter Traffic Frenzy”

How To Drive Traffic To Your Blog Using Two Paid Methods.

2. Solo Ads (1-Paid Method)

In simple terms, a solo ad is when you pay someone to email to THEIR mailing list on your behalf. You create a short ad and include your website link or capture page within the ad. They will guarantee X amount of clicks on your link for a dollar amount.  Typical charges are 500 clicks for $160 – $200 dollars. You can find Solo Ads that will offer 200 clicks for $50 or $60 dollars as well.

Copywriting skills really come into play here because a Solo Ad is just an email. Your one shot at getting them to open and read it is, your headline.  So it better grab their attention.

Again, being somewhat unconventional and going against the grain, with some Solo ads, rather than put a link directly to a capture page, there are times I will link it back to a promotional blog post. Be sure and have a way to capture their information on this post since this is not free traffic,  you are paying for each click with this method.

This is a great way to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing, while at the same time achieve equal or better results, and drive more traffic to your blog.

Remember, the sole purpose of a Solo Ad is to capture someones information and get them onto your list. So your promotional blog post better be captivating and congruent enough with your subject headline in order for them open it, read it, and to give up their email address.

Here’s a list of places to contact to place your solo ad. Keep in mind, there are hundreds of sources that offer solo ads. This is a list of places I know that are fair and produce results.

3. Betternetworker (2-Paid Method)

Betternetworker is claims they are the #1 MLM Social Networking Community for Home Business Owners.  I wrote an article on How To Generate MLM Leads Using Betternetworker that I think you will find useful.

This has been very effective for driving traffic to my blog!

As a paying member you can create articles, upload videos, run classified ads, participate in their forum and much more. With over hundreds of thousands of hits every month, BN is a great source to place content with links back to your main site. It’s a powerful way if you’re looking for an inexpensive method on how to drive traffic to your blog.

4. SafeLists or Traffic Exchanges (Free or Paid)

SafeLists and Traffic Exchanges allow you to build up points by clicking on other ads running on their site in order to build up points. You can take the shortcut approach and buy points also. Once you have enough points, your classified ads can start running.  Take caution here as you can get sucked in and waste a lot of time clicking around on ads just to build up points. My experience has been most of the people using these types of exchanges aren’t really looking at the ads, they are just clicking for points.

Here are a few of the better ones to try out.

    Hey Gary,
I apologize for the long delay in approving your comment.
As for driving traffic to your blog using a solo ad, it all depends on what you are selling. If the subject, copy and product are enticing enough for them to click your link… Sometimes I will set up a post on the blog (and hide the post) as a semi short sales letter/blog post, giving more info regarding the product or service.

I can create a pop up just for that page requesting their info. Often times people will click through the site to different articles and end up purchasing something they weren’t originally there for. Honestly, solo ads for the most part produce a fairly low conversion rate. Yes, they can be a great tool for building your list… But, If I am going to spend the money to send someone directly to a capture page, from time to time I will use this method to drive more traffic to my blog and work it from there.

Great plan building backlinks using Squidoo & Tumbler. It takes time but well worth the effort.
Thanks again Gary for stopping by.

There are some really good tips here, but I am still not sure about the benefit of buying solo ads to drive traffic to a blog.
Your 2.0 tips are very handy. I have just built a squidoo lens and I will be building a network of links back to the blog, using tumblr, blogger, wordpress.org and so on.

    Thanks Corina,
Yeah, solo ads can be effective, you have to do your homework on the provider. Make sure their list is congruent with your offer, otherwise it’s a waste of money…

I keep hearing about Tribeerr, guess its time to look into it. I understand it is free? Hope to see you there!

Great ideas Richard, the solo-Ads is especially new to me. I’ve had great responses with sites like Blog Engage and Triberr. It’s helped me get my posts out there, drive traffic, and connect with some great folks.

Thanks for sharing links to give us a starting point! Hope you’re having a great weekend :)

    Hey Chris,

It’s difficult to track exactly how many visitors come from Network Blogs. I do feel it’s worth having it on my site as another means of social proof. Currently I have 62 people that have taken the time to follow my blog through NetworkBlogs. I have friends in the biz with hundreds of followers and hope to one day have the same. I know I always look to see if someone is using that widget on their site and if they offer value, I will follow them. I believe that Google takes into consideration NetworkBlogs as they have recently made all the changes with the Panda and Penguin updates to put more value on the social interaction of websites.

    Thanks again Chris!

    Hi Richard,

I like commenting on blogs and FB. Awesome tool to drive free leads to your website. All tips spot on.

Each time I comment – when I am on my game 😉 – I visualize myself leaving an advertisement. Whatever I write will be viewed by plenty of folks, so I am careful, making sure I add immense value with each comment. Of course when I am in a rush, I am off my game, and the comment is not quite so good, and the advertisement, poor. Oh well, this is being human.

Overall I intend to make a positive impact with each comment I leave. Makes it easier to drive substantial traffic to my blog while adding real value to my fellow blogger’s site.

    Thanks for sharing Richard.

    Hey Claudia,

Thanks for your comment! Squidoo is the perfect tool for doing just that! Remember, they do keep a close watch on what kind of links are posted within the body copy of your articles. I’d be careful with using affiliate links there but linking back to your blog that offers quality content is no problem.

Here are a few networking groups I belong to on Facebook. Hope to see you there!

Be sure and read the guideline before requesting to join. Most groups are looking for people to share quality content, offer value and don’t allow spamming your biz opportunity.

    Thanks again Claudia,

Great tips. I’ve been thinking of using a fun site like Squidoo to publish fictional stories as a way to drive traffic to my site. I’d like to look into joining some nice Facebook groups.
